Leeyuh!

I love the sound of my voice when I read aloud

It’s not that I have a particularly attractive voice. That’s all relative, and not really the point. My voice’s best feature, what I love about it, is how calming it is.

Sleep has always been a problem for me. I deal with some personal struggles that make it INCREDIBLY easy to neglect sleep hygiene. It’s one of the many negative habits I’m aiming to quash. One of the positive habits I’m bringing in is reading a minimum of 15 pages per day. This naturally happens at night.

The house is as silent as it could ever get before everyone falls asleep. My lamp, with it’s annoyingly bright fluorescent light, are meticulously placed behind behind my bookshelf, producing a warm, soft glow that stretches across the entire room. I lay in my bed with the four books I’m reading in rotation: a mystery novel, and a short story anthology, a manga, and a guide on reading poetry.

Reading the words aloud requires some effort; not so much that I quit altogether, but just enough that it gradually tires me out. I sound relaxed, stable, and safe (three words I rarely use to describe my current state). The chances of each sentence being interrupted by a deep stretch, a long, satisfying yawn, and the occasional single tear1 going down the side of my face increases the longer I read.

I may have found a way to get myself to sleep.

  1. Anyone else tear up when they yawn?
