I like writing my bear posts on paper
This is just me working out my thoughts, but I'm formatting it as a suggestion. Do whatever works best for you!
Keeps me focused
My mind moves 50,000 miles a minute. When I write on paper, I write slower to keep things legible. It forces my train of thought to slow down.
Limits screen time
Don't think I have to explain why this is a good thing lol.
There's a physical copy of my work
For me, I like the idea of what I work on being saved in three places: physically on paper, on a device (drive, pc, or phone), AND online. I also have a journaling habit, so writing doesn't feel like I'm going out of my way. Starting from paper is a pretty seamless process compared to the other two.
- Bear: Type into the bear editor and post (server) -> Download files onto pc (device) -> print files (paper).
- Text/Doc Editor: Type into editor and save (device) -> Upload to bear and format (server) -> print files (paper).
My personal issue with these is that saving the files in one or two locations goes OUTSIDE of the ideation-to-post process. It becomes an additional task I have to remember to do once I'm done. My memory is shit, so I want to limit reliance on it as much as possible. Also, I love finishing things FULLY, versus having lingering tasks that can build up.
When I start from paper, each save location has been hit by the time I hit post:
- Paper: Write in my notebook (paper) -> Take photos on my phone (device) -> Copy text from photos and paste into a bear draft page to format and post (server).
This method is easier on my brain. No lingering tasks. It may make the posting process take longer, but I'm not in a rush.
Makes the transition to a notebook ecosystem much easier
I have a journaling habit, but I still work out a lot of stuff digitally. I do think digital tools are useful and aren't inherently unhealthy. However, I want them to be additive, not essential (whenever possible).
I would love to have a commonplace book, media log, journal, tracker, schedule, all of that sorta stuff in a series of notebooks. I love writing and stationery products. But doing a full transition becomes a chore. I've always procrastinated projects that require a complete overhaul of my current routine. Starting with writing blog posts on paper is not so difficult.
