UPDATE: CARA’S ALREADY REALLY CLOSE TO IT’S GOALS, SO THERE’S NO NEED FOR MY ORIGINAL IDEA OF RAISING FUNDS! It gives me hope that so many people understand why what happened to them is morally wrong. I edited my post to share some thoughts that I didn't include in the original version.

I haven't been on here long, but my impression of the bear community's general gen ai sentiment is hesitant -> anti. Even so, I hope you'll keep an open mind.
If you're someone whose reading this and finds the response to Cara's site being scraped overblown, I want to point something out.
At the end of the day, one of Cara's FOUNDATIONS was it's anti gen ai views. Artists did not want their work scraped, and tried creating a place where they made it difficult. People who want to scrape on mass would see these barriers and ACTIVELY CHOOSE to scrape anyway. It's not about if you think it isn't a big deal, it's about how it's THEIR work. They don't want it scraped so bad that an entirely new crowdfunded platform was created, ran by volunteers and someone actively engaged in lawsuits AGAINST gen ai. It's not about what you want or believe in. Even if i believed gen ai scraping was 100% okay, it's about:
Consent.
If you want something, and someone doesn't want to give it to you, don't take it. There can be nuance, but I don't believe there is any here.
Having new data to use in your ai model isn't some essential to life that you are being restricted from. For these artists, it's their LIFE'S WORK and a representation of who they are as a person. It deserves dignity and respect.
Even if you disagree about the ethics of gen ai, acknowledge these artists' passion and their pain. Acknowledge their care for their work. Respect their boundaries, BE A HUMAN and
